Welcome to Xtra Computing Group at NTU, Singapore!

Xtra Computing Group is a research group led by Associate Professor Bingsheng He in National University of Singapore. Initially, the group was set up in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (August 2010- May 2016). We focus on emerging topics in data management and HPC. Particularly, our research interests include Big data management systems (with special interests in cloud computing and emerging hardware systems), Parallel and distributed systems and Cloud Computing. Also, we are interested in "future" systems, such as big data on future hardware and future cloud computing platform (e.g., Cloud 3.0).

Mission

Xtra's mission is to build faster, greener and cheaper computing systems.

  • Efficiency

    We are working on efficiency of architecture aware computing systems such as GPGPU, APU and emerging memories like flash and PCM.

  • Energy consumption

    Energy consumption is a crucial factor in high performance computing. We focus on novel power management techniques and renewable energy integration in the context of in-memory processing.

  • Total cost of ownership

    In cloud services, total ownership cost matters a lot to both service providers and consumers. We work on price-aware optimizations in the cloud environment.
