With the prevalence of powerful workstations, there has been a great interest in using interconnect network of workstations for high performance parallel computation. A number of such research softwares have been developed. For example, PVM is a software system that permits a network of heterogeneous UNIX workstations to be used as a single large parallel computer. Thus, large computational problems can be solved by using the aggregate power of many computers. The objective of this research is to develop static scheduling and dynamic load balancing strategies for running SPMD applications in a heterogeneous network environment.
